How we make your custom foot orthotics?
The first step to making your custom foot orthotics begins with your initial appointment at MediFeet Clinic, where your podiatrist will provide a musculoskeletal assessment including a gait (walking) assessment. A 3D scan of your feet will be taken, that creates an exact likeness of your foot in its corrected position. The computer measures the 3D scan to an accuracy of 0.1 mm. If any software adjustments are necessary for your custom foot orthotic, such as extra padding your Podiatrist will design that and add it to your script. The scans are then sent to the laboratory where your orthotics are completed. The fitting will be done in two weeks to ensure Orthotics are addressing the right muscles/foot posture.
A follow up appointment will be booked to review your foot conditions after 2 weeks. If needed, adjustments can be done to your orthotics to ensure orthotics are fitting well in your shoes.
Does orthotics wear out? How long do custom foot orthotics last?
Custom foot orthotics are more durable than regular orthotics as they are manufactured using high quality materials. Custom foot orthotics can last up to five years depending on how you look after them. Top covers can be replaced separately at a much lower cost upon they wear out.
Do I need to attend to orthotic review appointments?
Over time orthotics can deteriorate, lose balance, or flatten, which reduces their control and effectiveness. Regular reviews or updating your orthotics is important to ensure they function correctly and control your foot biomechanics efficiently.
We suggest orthotics to be reviewed once a year as over the time they can deteriorate, lose balance, or flatten, which reduces their control and effectiveness.
